CJ McCollum scored a season-best 46 points and 10 three-pointers, powering the Washington Wizards to a 132–113 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday night and ending Washington’s 14-game losing streak.
McCollum came out firing, missing only three times from deep and finishing one triple shy of his career high and the franchise mark. His explosive start fueled a 45-point first quarter and a 77-point first half, both Washington’s best of the season. The Wizards (now 1–2 in NBA Cup play) never trailed.
Alex Sarr supplied a 27-point, 11-rebound double-double, helping Washington (2–15) secure its first home win since April 2. Corey Kispert added 19 points before exiting in the third quarter with a thumb injury.
Atlanta (now 1–2 in NBA Cup play) was led by Kristaps Porziņģis’ 22 points and Onyeka Okongwu’s 20, but the Hawks couldn’t keep pace after falling behind by as many as 33 points. The loss snapped their two-game winning streak and marked their most lopsided defeat since opening night.
Washington drilled its first seven threes, racing to a 29-point cushion by late in the first quarter. Atlanta trimmed the margin in garbage time after both teams emptied their benches.
