Anthony Edwards added another milestone to his rapidly growing resume Thursday night.

The Minnesota Timberwolves star became the third-youngest player in NBA history to reach 10,000 career points, hitting the mark on a smooth 13-foot baseline fadeaway midway through the fourth quarter of Minnesota’s 131-122 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

At 24 years, 156 days old, Edwards trails only LeBron James and Kevin Durant in reaching the benchmark at such a young age. He also became just the seventh player in league history to surpass 10,000 points before turning 25, joining James, Durant, Kobe Bryant, Luka Dončić, Tracy McGrady and Carmelo Anthony.

“To be honest, it’s cool, but I know I’ve got a lot more to go, so it’s really nothing, for real,” Edwards said. “I’m kind of sick that I got in front of Kobe. I wished I would’ve waited like 100 days or something, but yeah, it’s all good.”

Edwards finished with 25 points, nine assists and seven rebounds as the Timberwolves shot a season-best 57% from the field and 53% from 3-point range. He went 10 of 20 from the floor and knocked down four of seven shots from beyond the arc.

“The scoring comes natural to him in a lot of ways,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said. “I remember his first 40-point game in Phoenix his rookie year. Even then, you knew there was something inside him where he could get to that.”

The No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 draft debuted at just 19 years old and reached 10,000 points in 412 games — the 28th-fastest in NBA history and the seventh-fastest among active players. Only Luka Doncic, James, Joel Embiid, Durant, Trae Young and Donovan Mitchell reached the mark quicker among current players.

Edwards is also just the third player in franchise history to score 10,000 points for Minnesota, joining Kevin Garnett and Karl-Anthony Towns.
