Veteran guard Chris Paul is reportedly on the move again, with multiple outlets indicating he is headed to Toronto as part of a three-team trade involving the Clippers and Nets. According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Paul could still be traded again before Thursday afternoon’s deadline, and the deal will not require him to report to the Raptors.
Under the terms of the reported agreement, Toronto acquires Paul from the Clippers. Brooklyn receives guard Ochai Agbaji and a 2032 second-round pick from the Raptors, while the Clippers obtain the draft rights to Vanja Marinković from the Nets.
Agbaji’s role in Toronto had diminished this season after a career year in 2024–25, when he averaged 10.4 points per game and started 45 of 64 contests. In 2025–26, he has appeared in 42 games, making 13 starts, and is averaging 4.3 points and 2.3 rebounds.
Paul’s latest move comes just weeks after the Clippers parted ways with him in early December, months after he returned to the franchise as a free agent last July. Now 40 and in his 21st NBA season, Paul has strongly hinted that this will be his final year in the league.
One of the most accomplished guards in NBA history, Paul is a 12-time All-Star, a four-time All-NBA first-team selection and a two-time Olympic gold medalist. He ranks second all-time in assists with 12,552 and was the first player in league history to record at least 20,000 points and 10,000 assists. His legacy looms especially large in Los Angeles, where he is widely regarded as the most impactful player in Clippers history after leading the franchise to six straight winning seasons from 2011 to 2017, including its first two Pacific Division titles and three playoff series victories.
Paul’s on-court role has been minimal this season, as he is averaging career lows of 2.9 points and 3.3 assists in just 14.2 minutes per game. He did not play at all in five consecutive games in mid-November and logged what turned out to be his final appearance with the team against Miami, scoring eight points and adding three assists in 15 minutes during a game in which James Harden and other starters were effectively benched amid growing tension.
Paul returned to the Clippers last summer hoping for one last chance to contend for his first NBA title alongside Kawhi Leonard and Harden. That vision unraveled quickly, however, as Harden was dealt to Cleveland on Tuesday in a trade for Darius Garland and a second-round pick, setting the stage for yet another twist in the closing chapter of Paul’s storied career.
