The Predictors

Washington Wizards 126, Detroit Pistons 117

Will Riley scored 20 points and Sharife Cooper added 18 to lead the Washington Wizards to an upset over the Eastern Conference-leading Detroit Pistons. The Wizards, playing with just 10 available players — including three on two-way contracts — earned their fourth win in six games, improving to 14-36.

Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 30 points, eight rebounds, and eight assists, but the Pistons shot just 27.3% from three-point range. Jalen Duren exited early with knee soreness after scoring four points in 13 minutes. After trailing by 17 in the third, Detroit cut the deficit to five, but Washington pulled away with clutch baskets from Bilal Coulibay and Justin Champagnie to seal the win.

Orlando Magic 118, Brooklyn Nets 98

Jalen Suggs recorded his first career triple-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists, while Desmond Bane added 23 points and Paolo Banchero scored 22 as the Orlando Magic routed the Brooklyn Nets. Suggs, playing 29 minutes in his seventh game back from a right knee injury, also blocked four shots and had three steals.

Brooklyn’s rookies Egor Demin (26 points) and Nolan Traore (21 points) led the Nets, but Michael Porter Jr., the team’s leading scorer, struggled with just nine points on 2-of-13 shooting. Orlando took control early and led by as many as 26 points in the third quarter, finishing strong despite missing minutes from key contributors.

Atlanta Hawks 121, Utah Jazz 119

Nickeil Alexander-Walker hit a jumper with 1.3 seconds remaining and scored 23 points, helping the Atlanta Hawks overcome the Utah Jazz in a thriller. Newly acquired Jock Landale had a season-high 29 points and five 3-pointers, hitting the go-ahead triple with 45 seconds left.

Jalen Johnson posted his third straight triple-double with 22 points, 16 rebounds, and 15 assists, second in the NBA only to Nikola Jokic. Rookie Cooper Flagg scored 32 points for Utah, marking his fourth consecutive 30-point game, but the Jazz fell short after tying the game at 119 with nine seconds remaining.

Toronto Raptors 123, Chicago Bulls 107

Brandon Ingram scored 33 points and Immanuel Quickley added 24 as the Toronto Raptors snapped a four-game losing streak against the Chicago Bulls. Collin Murray-Boyles and Sandro Mamukelashvili each scored 17 points, while Scottie Barnes chipped in 13.

Chicago debuted several new players after making seven trades on Thursday. Anfernee Simons scored 22 points and Matas Buzelis added 18, while Guerschon Yabusele posted 15 points and 11 rebounds in his Bulls debut. Toronto pulled away late with a 24-12 third-quarter run, taking a 100-88 lead into the fourth.

Charlotte Hornets 109, Houston Rockets 99

Rookie Kon Knueppel scored 24 points and LaMelo Ball added 20 to lead the Charlotte Hornets to a dominant 109-99 win over the Houston Rockets, extending their winning streak to eight games — the longest for the franchise since 1998-99.

Charlotte led by 16 entering the fourth quarter, and Brandon Miller scored the first five points of the period to push the lead to 96-75. Kevin Durant led Houston with 31 points, while Jabari Smith Jr. added 17. Alperen Sengun struggled with just seven points on 3-of-11 shooting.

San Antonio Spurs 135, Dallas Mavericks 123

Victor Wembanyama posted 29 points and 11 rebounds as the San Antonio Spurs outlasted the Dallas Mavericks, who saw rookie Cooper Flagg score 32 points in his fourth consecutive 30-point game. Harrison Barnes added 19 points and De’Aaron Fox chipped in 17, including two crucial fourth-quarter 3-pointers.

Naji Marshall matched Flagg with 32 points for Dallas, and Daniel Gafford recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. The Spurs led by double digits several times but had to hold off a late Mavericks rally, sealing the win in the final two minutes.

Golden State Warriors 101, Phoenix Suns 97

Pat Spencer scored a career-high 20 points and Gui Santos added 18 as the shorthanded Golden State Warriors rallied from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Phoenix Suns. De’Anthony Melton’s layup as time expired capped the comeback after Dillon Brooks missed a potential go-ahead 3-pointer.

Phoenix, missing Devin Booker and Jalen Green, shot just six field goals in the fourth. Grayson Allen had 21 points and Brooks 24 for the Suns, who saw Allen leave the game late with a right knee injury. The Warriors were without Stephen Curry and recently acquired Kristaps Porzingis, who hasn’t yet joined the team.

Los Angeles Lakers 119, Philadelphia 76ers 115

Austin Reaves scored 35 points in just 25 minutes off the bench to lead the Los Angeles Lakers past the Philadelphia 76ers, despite Luka Doncic leaving the game with a left leg injury. LeBron James added 17 points and 10 assists as the Lakers rallied in the second half.

Joel Embiid led the 76ers with 35 points and Tyrese Maxey added 26 points and 13 assists. The 76ers closed to within three late, but Maxi Kleber fed Rui Hachimura for a dunk with 12 seconds remaining to seal the win. Reaves was efficient, hitting 12-of-17 shots with five 3-pointers in his second game back from a 5½-week injury.
