The Predictors

The Orlando Magic will be without forward Franz Wagner for the foreseeable future as he continues to recover from a left high ankle sprain suffered in early December.

President of Basketball Operations Jeff Weltman announced that Wagner remains sidelined indefinitely due to lingering soreness. Recent imaging determined the 22-year-old requires additional rehabilitation before he can resume full basketball activities. He is expected to be re-evaluated in approximately three weeks.

Wagner initially sustained the injury during the first quarter of Orlando’s Dec. 7 matchup in New York, forcing him to miss 16 consecutive games. He briefly returned in mid-January, appearing in games in Berlin, Germany, and London, England, before sitting out another nine contests while continuing to manage the issue.

His most recent return came under a strict minutes restriction, logging 16 minutes off the bench against Milwaukee on Feb. 9 and 20 minutes in a follow-up game against the Bucks two days later.

In 28 appearances this season, including 26 starts, Wagner has averaged 21.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.0 steals in 31.8 minutes per game. He has also been efficient at the free-throw line, shooting 82.8 percent.
