Paolo Banchero delivered a dramatic finish Wednesday night, banking in a long 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer to lift the Orlando Magic to a 104-103 win over the Brooklyn Nets.
The shot capped a 30-point performance from Banchero and helped Orlando bounce back from a loss at Washington earlier in the week. The Magic have now won eight straight meetings with Brooklyn and improved to 21-17 on the season.
Wendell Carter Jr. added 20 points for Orlando, while Tristan da Silva scored 14 and Noah Penda finished with 13.
The extra session was tightly contested from start to finish. Egor Demin knocked down a 3-pointer with 1:07 remaining to put Brooklyn ahead 100-99. Carter answered with a dunk in traffic to give Orlando the lead with 16 seconds left. Demin struck again from beyond the arc with 3.6 seconds remaining, pushing the Nets in front 103-101 before Banchero buried a 26-footer off the glass as time expired.
Regulation was equally dramatic. Brooklyn closed to within one on Noah Clowney’s jumper, but da Silva responded with a dunk to put Orlando ahead by three with 17 seconds left. Demin tied the game with a 3-pointer six seconds later, and Banchero’s deep attempt at the buzzer came up short, sending the game to overtime.
Michael Porter Jr. led Brooklyn with 34 points, while Demin scored 18. The Nets were coming off a home win over Denver and fell to 11-13.
