Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 34 points to lead the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder to a 119–98 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday night, snapping an 0–3 skid against San Antonio this season.
Jalen Williams added 20 points and Chet Holmgren finished with eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocks as Oklahoma City improved to a league-best 34–7 at the midway point of the season. The Thunder have now won four straight and remain on pace to match last season’s 68–14 regular-season record.
Stephon Castle scored 20 points for San Antonio, while Victor Wembanyama finished with 17 points and seven rebounds. The Spurs, who entered the night second in the Western Conference behind Oklahoma City, have lost six of their last 10 games after previously beating the Thunder three times in a two-week span last month.
Oklahoma City played without two starters, leading rebounder Isaiah Hartenstein and defensive specialist Lu Dort, but still limited San Antonio to 40% shooting from the field.
Gilgeous-Alexander set the tone early, scoring 13 points in the first quarter as the Thunder took a 32–26 lead. Oklahoma City carried a narrow 55–52 advantage into halftime before breaking the game open in the third quarter.
Midway through the period, Gilgeous-Alexander converted an and-one that pushed the Thunder’s lead to 73–62 and marked his 111th consecutive game with at least 20 points, extending the second-longest streak in NBA history. He scored 15 points in the quarter as Oklahoma City surged to a 95–76 lead entering the fourth.
The Thunder cruised the rest of the way, earning their first win in four meetings with San Antonio this season. The teams will meet one final time in the regular season on Feb. 4 in San Antonio.
