Tyrese Maxey erupted for 39 points and eight assists as the Philadelphia 76ers snapped a four-game skid with a convincing 135-108 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night. All four of Philadelphia’s recent losses had come by double digits.

Maxey shot 16-of-28 from the field and buried four 3-pointers to lead a Sixers offense that connected on 21 shots from beyond the arc. VJ Edgecombe delivered a breakout performance, drilling a career-high six 3s on his way to 24 points. Quentin Grimes added 19 points and seven assists, knocking down five 3-pointers, while Kelly Oubre Jr. chipped in 18 points and four steals.

Philadelphia, coming off a loss in New Orleans on Saturday, played without Joel Embiid for the third straight game due to right shin soreness. Despite his absence, the Sixers seized control early. Grimes opened a decisive 10-2 run with a 3-pointer, then set up a cutting Adem Bona for a dunk before Maxey capped the surge with a fadeaway jumper and a 3 to make it 35-26 after one quarter. The Sixers never trailed again.

Minnesota saw its three-game winning streak come to an end. Anthony Edwards scored 28 points, including 19 in the first half, while Jaden McDaniels had 19 and Julius Randle added 18.

The Timberwolves were without Naz Reid (shoulder soreness), and Rudy Gobert served a one-game suspension for exceeding the league’s flagrant foul limit. Rookie center Joan Beringer made his first career start but logged just five first-half minutes before being replaced in the rotation.
