Tyrese Maxey broke Allen Iverson’s franchise record for 3-pointers and scored 28 points to lead the 76ers past the Heat on Thursday night.
Maxey entered the game three 3s shy of Iverson’s mark of 885 and surpassed it with 1:38 left in the first quarter. He finished 5 of 12 from beyond the arc — all five coming in the opening period — and now has 887 in the middle of his sixth season. The 25-year-old also added 11 assists as Philadelphia won its third straight.
Joel Embiid recorded 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Kelly Oubre Jr. added 21 for the Sixers, who steadied themselves after watching a 16-point halftime lead disappear.
Bam Adebayo had 29 points and 14 rebounds for Miami, and Tyler Herro scored 25. Herro’s 3-pointer gave the Heat their first lead with 2:44 left, but Miami failed to score again. Maxey answered with two free throws and set up Oubre for a go-ahead 3, and Embiid sealed it with a 3-pointer in the final 30 seconds.
Philadelphia led 73-57 at halftime before Miami rallied to tie it late in the third. The margin remained tight until the Sixers closed it out in the final minutes.
