Victor Wembanyama scored 25 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and blocked five shots to lead the San Antonio Spurs to a 112-103 victory over the Orlando Magic on Sunday night, a game that faced a nearly five-hour delay due to travel issues.
The Spurs were stranded overnight in Charlotte after a snowstorm dropped nearly a foot of snow, and then their flight home suffered a mechanical issue. Despite the chaos, San Antonio came out strong, hitting seven of their first eight shots and building a double-digit lead within five minutes. Wembanyama made his first two attempts, including a finger-roll layup over Wendell Carter Jr. and a two-handed dunk. He had been questionable with left calf soreness but was cleared to play just 30 minutes before tipoff.
Devin Vassell added 16 points, Dylan Harper scored 15, and De’Aaron Fox contributed 14 points and 10 assists. The Spurs were without Stephon Castle, who missed the game with left adductor tightness.
For Orlando, Desmond Bane led the way with 25 points, and Paolo Banchero had 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Magic had won two straight and were in San Antonio since Saturday following a 130-120 home win over Toronto.
The delayed start didn’t slow San Antonio, who improved their record with the win.
