The Golden State Warriors are preparing for the anticipated debut of Kristaps Porziņģis on Thursday night against the Boston Celtics, but they may have to wait longer for the return of Stephen Curry.

According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Curry was unable to participate in a live scrimmage Wednesday as he continues to recover from a knee injury, casting doubt on his short-term availability. Head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged that Curry has not progressed as hoped and said the team will provide another update after he works further with the training staff. Kerr added that an additional MRI remains a possibility following consultation with team medical director Dr. Rick Celebrini.

Meanwhile, Porziņģis is expected to suit up for his first game in a Warriors uniform after being acquired from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Jonathan Kuminga at the trade deadline. The veteran big man has battled illness and Achilles tendonitis this season but has averaged 17.1 points and 5.1 rebounds in 17 appearances.

Golden State could soon gain a new frontcourt presence, though its backcourt star’s timeline remains uncertain.
