Joe Flacco isn’t ready to walk away just yet.

The 41-year-old veteran quarterback is set to return to the Cincinnati Bengals on a one-year deal worth $6 million, with up to $3 million more available through incentives. The agreement, reached Tuesday, gives Cincinnati a familiar and experienced option under center heading into the 2026 season.

Flacco spent much of the 2025 campaign with the Bengals after being acquired midseason from the Cleveland Browns. In nine appearances — including six starts — he completed 61.7% of his passes for 1,664 yards, throwing 13 touchdowns against just four interceptions. Even after signing veteran Josh Johnson earlier in the offseason, Cincinnati remained intent on bringing Flacco back.

That plan came together after Flacco explored free agency in hopes of landing a starting role, only to find that opportunity wasn’t available elsewhere. Instead, he’ll return to a team that values his experience and steady presence.

Now in his 18th NFL season, Flacco is best known for his long run with the Baltimore Ravens, but he’s taken on a journeyman role in recent years. He began 2025 in Cleveland, where he couldn’t quite replicate the late-career surge that helped push the Browns to the playoffs in 2023.

Midway through the season, Cincinnati turned to him out of necessity. After Joe Burrow suffered a significant toe injury early in the year — and with backup Jake Browning struggling to keep the offense afloat — the Bengals made a move within the AFC North to acquire Flacco. He delivered a win in just his second start, though it ultimately stood as his only victory as a starter that season.

Still, Flacco showed enough to earn another opportunity. His ability to push the ball downfield and connect with playmakers like Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins reinforced his value as a reliable backup.

After watching their season unravel following Burrow’s early injury in 2025, the Bengals are clearly focused on avoiding a repeat scenario. By bringing back Flacco and adding Johnson, Cincinnati has built a safety net of experienced quarterbacks behind their franchise star.

If everything goes according to plan, they won’t need it — but this time, they’re making sure they’re prepared if they do.
