Kevin Stefanski’s coaching staff in Atlanta is beginning to take shape, starting with continuity on the defensive side of the ball.

The Falcons will retain defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday. The team officially confirmed the move Monday, and NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero added that Ulbrich has agreed to a new three-year contract.

Stefanski is also expected to bring familiar faces with him to Atlanta. Rapoport reported that Tommy Rees, who served as Stefanski’s offensive coordinator in Cleveland during the 2025 season, is likely to follow him and take on the same role with the Falcons. In addition, longtime offensive line coach Bill Callahan is expected to rejoin Stefanski’s staff after coaching in Tennessee, according to Rapoport and NFL Network Insiders Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo.

While several of these moves reflect Stefanski reconnecting with trusted collaborators, the decision to keep Ulbrich may be the most significant. Falcons owner Arthur Blank publicly endorsed Ulbrich earlier this month, noting he would recommend the defensive coordinator to the team’s next head coach, though he stopped short of mandating any staff decisions. Stefanski ultimately agreed, preserving stability for a defense that showed flashes of promise.

Atlanta’s defense finished 19th in points allowed and 15th in yards surrendered, but the unit is loaded with talent and trending upward. After struggling mightily to generate pressure the previous season, the Falcons transformed their pass rush under Ulbrich in 2025, finishing with 57 sacks — second-most in the NFL. Rookie first-rounder James Pearce Jr. led the team with 10.5 sacks, while fellow young standouts Jalon Walker and Brandon Dorlus combined for 14 more. All three will be 25 or younger next season.

The secondary also provides a strong foundation, led by cornerback A.J. Terrell, safety Jessie Bates and emerging playmaker Xavier Watts. Though there were inconsistencies during Ulbrich’s first year, Atlanta was among the league’s better pass defenses early in the season and delivered statement performances in prime-time wins over the Bills and Rams.

With Ulbrich returning and Stefanski assembling a familiar offensive staff, the Falcons appear committed to building on an already established foundation — one that could raise the ceiling for a talented roster moving forward.
