New York is set to hire Matt Nagy as its next offensive coordinator, a move that reunites two longtime Reid proteges in East Rutherford. Nagy, who spent the bulk of his NFL coaching career working under Reid, will now run the Giants’ offense under new head coach John Harbaugh, himself a former Reid assistant from their days together in Philadelphia.
Although Harbaugh and Nagy never shared a staff during the Eagles years, their professional paths have followed similar lines. Nagy logged 14 combined seasons on Reid’s staffs, most recently serving as Kansas City’s offensive coordinator from 2023 through the end of the 2025 season. Harbaugh, meanwhile, began his NFL coaching career under Reid as a special teams coordinator and defensive backs coach before rising through the ranks elsewhere.
Nagy became available after his second stint in Kansas City ended with the Chiefs missing the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade and his contract expiring. The 47-year-old explored head coaching opportunities during this hiring cycle, interviewing with several teams, including Arizona, Las Vegas, Baltimore and Tennessee, but ultimately found no openings once the market settled.
With the head coaching carousel slowing and Las Vegas expected to wait until after the Super Bowl to finalize its next hire, Nagy pivoted toward coordinator roles. The Giants emerged as a natural landing spot after Harbaugh’s initial plans changed. New York had interest in former Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, but when Cleveland hired Monken as its head coach, the Giants expanded their search and zeroed in on Nagy.
Now, Nagy steps into a prominent role with a franchise looking to reset its offensive identity. Alongside Harbaugh, he’ll be tasked with shaping the Giants’ attack in 2025, bringing a blend of Reid-influenced principles and head coaching experience to a team seeking stability and direction on that side of the ball.
