Veteran wide receiver Darnell Mooney is heading to the New York Giants, signing a one-year deal worth up to $10 million, according to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport. Mooney, 28, spent the past two seasons with the Atlanta Falcons before being released on Monday, a move that saved the team $18.4 million against the salary cap. With the departure of Wan’Dale Robinson to the Tennessee Titans, the Giants add a proven speedster and reliable target for quarterback Jaxson Dart.
Mooney came close to a 1,000-yard season in 2024, hauling in 64 catches for 992 yards and five touchdowns while splitting snaps under Kirk Cousins and Michael Penix Jr.. Last year, his production dipped amid quarterback instability in Atlanta, finishing with 32 receptions for 443 yards and a touchdown after Penix’s season-ending knee injury forced a return to Cousins under center. Now in New York, Mooney will aim to revitalize his career alongside Dart, Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo, and Isaiah Likely under first-year Giants head coach John Harbaugh.
