The New York Jets are making another quarterback move, sending Justin Fields to the Kansas City Chiefs in exchange for a 2027 sixth-round pick, according to NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero.
As part of the deal, Kansas City will assume $3 million of the $10 million in guaranteed salary Fields was owed for 2026, per Pelissero. This move comes just one week after New York acquired Geno Smith in a trade with the Las Vegas Raiders, marking another significant shake-up in the Jets’ quarterback room.
Field spent just one season with New York, where he played in nine games and threw for 1,259 passing yards, seven touchdowns and an interception. He has not eclipsed 2,000 passing yards since 2023 with the Chicago Bears. Now, with Patrick Mahomes primed to step back in as the starter for Kansas City in 2026, it seems Fields has officially been written off as a starter after just five years in the NFL.
