Jonathan Gannon is heading from the desert to Lambeau Field.
The Green Bay Packers are set to hire the former Arizona Cardinals head coach as their new defensive coordinator, NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported Sunday, citing sources.
Gannon, 42, takes over for Jeff Hafley, who departed Green Bay on Jan. 19 to become the head coach of the Miami Dolphins. Hafley spent two seasons leading the Packers defense, which ranked among the top 12 in points and yards allowed, though the unit slipped slightly after All-Pro pass rusher Micah Parsons tore his ACL in Week 15.
Gannon inherits a well-structured defensive roster, with head coach Matt LaFleur hoping the former Cardinals head coach can restore elite production to the Green Bay defense.
Gannon’s head coaching tenure in Arizona ended after a 3-14 season in 2025, a year disrupted by starting quarterback Kyler Murray missing most of the campaign with a foot injury. Backup Jacoby Brissett filled in admirably at times, but the Cardinals finished Gannon’s three-year run with a 15-36 record.
Before Arizona, Gannon served two seasons as Philadelphia’s defensive coordinator, guiding the Eagles’ defense to Super Bowl LVII. In his final season in Philly, his unit recorded 70 sacks and ranked second in total defense.
Now, Green Bay will look to Gannon to bring that defensive dominance north to Wisconsin and help anchor the Packers for years to come.
