Mike McCarthy has reunited with an old colleague to lead the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense, with the team finalizing the hiring of Brian Angelichio as offensive coordinator, sources told NFL Network insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero. The Steelers later confirmed the hire.

Angelichio, 53, spent the last four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings as their passing game coordinator and tight ends coach. He previously worked under McCarthy in Green Bay from 2016-2018, coaching tight ends while Aaron Rodgers was quarterback, giving him familiarity with McCarthy’s system and philosophy. Angelichio also has ties to Pittsburgh, having served as tight ends coach at the University of Pittsburgh under Dave Wannstedt from 2006-2010.

In addition to Angelichio, the Steelers are bringing in former Washington Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. as assistant head coach and secondary coach, further bolstering the coaching staff. The moves signal Pittsburgh’s commitment to pairing McCarthy with trusted collaborators as the team aims to improve on both sides of the ball.
