Tyrese Maxey wins NBA’s Most Improved Player

Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey has been named the NBA’s Most Improved Player for the 2023-2024 season, averaging 25.9 points, 6.2 assists and 3.7 rebounds per game.

In the 2022-2023 season, Maxey recorded 20.3 points, 3.5 assists, and 2.9 rebounds per game; however, he only started 40 out of the 61 games he played. In 2023-2024, Maxey showed he is valuable as a starter, starting in all 70 games, recording 5.6 more points, 2.7 more assists, and 0.8 more rebounds per game.

In his fourth year in the league, Maxey’s scoring has risen for the third consecutive year, recording a career-high in points (25.9), assists (6.2), and steals (1.0). Maxey also recorded a career-high 52 points on April 7, 2024, against the San Antonio Spurs. With the loss of Joel Embiid in the Sixers' push to the playoffs, Maxey played a crucial role in the Sixers making the postseason.

Maxey also helped lead the Sixers to reach the No. 7 seed in the East, defeating the Miami Heat in the first round of the NBA play-in tournament to advance to the NBA Postseason, where they face the New York Knicks. As of April 25, 2024, the Sixers are down two games to none; however, they return to Philadelphia at 7:30 p.m. EST to play Game 3 of the seven-game series, where the Sixers hope to capture their first win against the Knicks.
